How to choose connectivity for remote management on site

Every installation has its own real-world conditions. In a block of flats, the router may be present but too far from the garden. In a villa, the signal may reach close to the house but not the valve box. In a green area away from buildings, a holiday home, or an installation outside the city, Wi-Fi may not be available.

The question to ask on site is simple:

“At the point where I will install Nuvola, is the Wi-Fi connection sufficient to guarantee remote management of the irrigation system over time?”

If the answer is yes, the solution is Nuvola WiFi Vision. If the answer is no — or if there is any uncertainty — the right choice is Nuvola Cell Vision.

How to check whether the Wi-Fi signal is suitable

To get an initial indication of coverage, the installer can use a smartphone or tablet at the point where Nuvola will be installed. This is a useful indication, but not definitive: smartphones and Nuvola may have different antennas, so the coverage detected may vary.

Points to assess on site:

• Distance from the router: the optimal range is 25–30 metres. Beyond this distance, the signal may become unstable.
• Obstacles between the router and the device: glass, wood, masonry, plants, metal, and reinforced concrete reduce the signal range.
• Wireless interference: other devices in the same area may make the connection unstable.
• Stability over time: a domestic Wi-Fi network can have its password changed or suffer outages. This risk should also be assessed for future remote management.

Nuvola WiFi Vision: remote irrigation system management using an existing network

Nuvola WiFi Vision is the recommended solution when a stable, usable Wi-Fi network exists at the installation point on site.

The device connects to the internet by hooking into the client’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and communicates with Vision controllers via Bluetooth 5.0, managing up to 30 devices. From that point, the installer can access the irrigation system remotely, modify the scheduling, and monitor the irrigation status without having to return to site.

It is the most straightforward choice when the network is available, reaches where it is needed, and does not introduce issues for future remote management of the irrigation system.

Nuvola Cell Vision: remote irrigation system management without Wi-Fi

Nuvola Cell Vision is the solution to consider when Wi-Fi is unavailable, does not reach where it is needed, or is not reliable for remote management over time.

This is often the case in green areas away from buildings, holiday homes, gardens at the coast or in the mountains, parks, urban spaces, or installations where it is not possible or practical to use the client’s network.

The device connects to the internet via an integrated e-SIM — no physical SIM to insert, no additional contract for the client — and communicates with Vision controllers via Bluetooth 5.0, managing up to 30 devices. Remote management of the irrigation system works exactly as with the WiFi model, via the Vision App or WebApp.

For the installer, it is a practical choice: rather than forcing a weak or unstable Wi-Fi network, the irrigation system is brought online with a connection purpose-built for those environments.
